Approach Grid User Guide

HOW TO ACCESS

  • Option 1: Click on quick links from the header menu and select Approach Grid

  • Option 3: Click on the link for favourite lick from the header menu (see personal preferences for more information) 

  • Option 2: Click on the shortcut from the metrics contextual search list

HOW TO FEED ISSUE COLLECTIONS TO THE GRID

  • Click on the Cloud menu icon and add Jira or Github channel

  • Feel free to combine, e.g. add more than one channel

HOW TO EDIT ESTIMATES AND ACTUALS ON THE GRID

  • Click on the Edit button to enable stamping

  • Select a timelslot cell

  • Use double-click or Space key to toggle allocations on/off

  • User left / right / up / down keys to navigate

QUICK ACTIONS PER ISSUE

  • Click on issue key button

  • Available actions include the ability to open the issue in its natural view (e.g. Jira issue screen, or Github page), Bulk fill allocations, View shared experiences (see Experience and Retro game for more information), Approach timeline summary, Issue links diagram (applicable to Jira issues)

SQUAD SETUP AND CAPACITY ALLOCATIONS

  • Click on the Team button

  • Click Add button to summon team member

  • Specify points capacity and any useful comments for the net iteration

  • Utilisation is calculated automatically based on remaining points per task , as assigned to the user

VIEW REPORTS

  • Click on Inspect menu

  • Deep-Dive report is used to inspect velocity and the delivery experience in terms when drag occurred, who was impacted and which feature involved

  • Delivery Curve report is the non-liner burn-up chart that leverages a combination of Approach Grid timestamps, and (optionally, if specified) due dates

CUSTOMISATIONS

  • Click on settings menu

  • Specify names for baseline estimates and actuals as suitable for your teams context and humour

  • Specify additional fields to be displayed in the abstract of the issue on the grid

  • Specify Deep-Dive report presets for chart labels and categorisation of instpection

  • Specify custom formatting for issues on the grid based on their status

ITERATION RESET MASTER

  • Create new iterations or roll on-going with Iteration Reset Master. It is designed to a breeze the process of bulk review of remaining effort, assignments and Due Date resets

  • Click on on Options menu next to Approach label, and select "Iteration Reset Master"

  • Nigty helper functions are accessible when clicking on table column headers - resetting points, calculating approximate due date from Approach Grid assignments, etc.

  • One the data review is complete, click Save button to commit the details
